The lakes of Pannesiere and Settons which feed the Nivernais canal at the top of the canal system. They are about 15 km from the actual canal and there is a stream called the Rigole de Yonne which goes through 3 tunnels along the edge of the Morvan hills and over an aqueduct which is about 300 feet high, supplying fresh water at about 10 miles an hour. Derek Banks took a Thames dinghy down this "unnavigable" stream in July 1977. It had apparently been about 10 years since anyone else had been along the stream by boat and the tunnels were a bit "spidery" to say the least ![]() |
