La Belle Epoque March 2006 ItineraryMISY SUR YONNE TO AUXERRE – MARCH 2006At 1.30 pm, you are met at Ampere Villiers Hotel in Paris and taken to the elegant Belle Epoque. The Captain and crew await you with a Champagne welcome, followed by a short cruise to Pont sur Yonne. Dinner onboard. This morning we drive to Fontainbleau and visit the famed Château which was the last residence of Napoleon. Return to the barge and cruise to Sens. Dinner on board This morning visit the 11th century Gothic Cathedral of Sens and the cathedral museum, which houses a fantastic collection of treasures from Thomas a Beckets gown, Roman artifacts to Napoleons hat! After wandering the streets of Sens we depart for an afternoon cruise to Villeneuve sur Yonne. Dinner on board. We begin the today with drive to Joigny to the market. Here you will discover a fantastic array of local produce and a chance to wander the streets of Joigny, We will then return to the Belle Epoque and cruise to Joigny, this time by river! Dinner ashore at a local auberge. Today we cruise from Joigny to Gurgy, the river here is particularly wild and beautiful. In the afternoon we drive to Chablis and taste its world-renowned Chardonnay's at Domaine Laroche .The first barrels of Chablis were matured here in the 9th century and our tasting includes a guided tour of the Obediencerie and a thorough explanation of the Laroche methods. Return to the Belle Epoque. Dinner onboard. We leave Gurgy in the morning and cruise the last of the River Yonne to Auxerre. In Auxerre we visit the Cathedral of St Etienne and wander the streets lined with half timber houses. Many shopping opportunities are to be had here. An elegant Captain's Farewell Dinner follows onboard. A last leisurely breakfast, then return to Paris by about 1pm. On alternative weeks the cruise is in reverse direction.
