As things have settled down for us, I'd like to take a moment to express my gratitude to you and the owners of European Waterways, Ltd. for having afforded a most unique opportunity to my my wife and me to spend a week on La Belle Epoque this past October. It was an experience we shall never forget.

My greatest superlatives are for the crew. Nick Jones, the captain, is a remarkable man with a great spirit and worlds of experience and knowledge. He certainly sets the tone. Not only was he attentive to our special needs, but brought a marvelous sense of humor and respect to all.

Phillippe Colles, the chef, and his wonderful wife, Trudi Simmons (hostess), brought warmth, sensitivity and a genuine desire to accomodate our wishes. They are truly fine people and lots of fun. Julianna Olianti (hostess) came to know our tastes and always responded to our thanks with "pleasure." Darren Borrowman (tour guide) has an energy and jauntiness that added to the spirit of the cruise. Darren and Phillippe one late afternoon taught me to play "Boules" and the beer and good cheer helped to bowl me over,

The sentiment of my essay in your contest that afforded my wife and I the opportunity to travel on this barge was about the beautiful country, the food/wine/cheese, history and culture of France and how it becomes realized among people in today's world. In the end, for me, it's always about people and communication and understanding. Your crew and your organization embody this. You are World Class!!

All expectations were surpassed, from crew to meals, to cleanliness, to tour contents, to other guests. The daily excursions were made enjoyable by our Captain's (Leigh) humour and how he made everything easy to understand. Our cruise on La Belle Epoque was absolute perfection, everything we imagined it would be and more. A barging vacation is definitely the ultimate way to experience a country at its finest grass roots level.

We have recently returned from a holiday on La Belle Epoque and felt that we must write to compliment your Company on the quality and service you have delivered. Martin Pocock and his staff, Rachael, Dean, Georgina and latterly Guy cannot be praised too highly. They all played their respective parts in making our holiday happy and truly memorable.

We have stayed at the Waterside Inn, which we are sure will be known to you, a couple of times and would hope that Michel Roux would not think we were taking his name in vain if we say our holiday seemed like the Waterside afloat.

This is said not only for the food but for the ambience and the quality of our surroundings and friendliness of the crew.

We shall return but in the meantime we are telling all our friends about our exceptional holiday.

We just returned from a fabulous week aboard La Belle Epoque. The crew was wonderful, and made our trip so pleasant! Our hostesses, Lynn and Barbara were so pleasant to be around and took such good care of us. The chef, Guy prepared wonderful meals with a wonderful variety of regional tastes.

We really appreciated that he kept the meals fairly light (I didn't even gain a pound!). Our first mate/tour guide Nick Jones was delightful and very knowledgeable and capable. He made us feel very at home. Finally, our captain, Leigh Wooton was just wonderful. He welcomed us aboard with open arms and made us feel safe while keeping us entertained.

Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and we have sent many people that we ran into in Paris to your web site for more info.

Thank you for providing our family with an experience of a lifetime!
