Sunday, Horseback riding cruise - Day 1

You will be met at Chateau de Lignan in Beziers at 4pm. You will then be transferred to Anjodi, moored in Homps Port. Champagne welcome followed by time to relax or take a walk along the footpath, before dinner on board.
Monday, Horseback riding cruise - Day 2

This morning we transfer to the riding stable, La Liviniere, near Homps. This stables offers the very best for experienced riders. The morning ride will consist of gallops across this vineyard area up to 300ft above the Canal du Midi with tremendous views of the surrounding countryside. Return to the barge for lunch on board and then a leisurely cruise with time to sample the full-bodies Corbieres wine of 17th Century Chateau LaVoulte Gasparets. Dinner on board.
Tuesday, Horseback riding cruise - Day 3

A morning cruise to Capestang, where we moor near the old stone bridge. After lunch we drive for only 15 minutes to the Creissan Riding Stables near Chinion where you can choose from their 62 horses. This is our first visit to these stables and today we enjoy the Garrigue, which consist of 20 km of back plain and the high land hills. Return to the barge for dinner on board
Wednesday, Horseback riding cruise - Day 4

A morning visit to Beziers' 13th Century fortified cathedral of Saint Nazaire, with a commanding view across to the Pyrenees Mountains. Explore l'Oppidum D'Enserune, a pre-Roman hill-top settlement with Greek and Iberian excavations dating from 600B.C. Cruise to Capestang in the afternoon, our route takes us through the world's oldest canal tunnel at Malpas to Domaine de Guery for a pre-dinner wine tasting. Tonight we eat out at a local auberge.
Thursday, Horseback riding cruise - Day 5

The barge sets off this morning along the 300 year old Canal du Midi, through the famous round lock, before heading out onto the inland lake of Thau, where we berth in the fishing village of Marseillan. After lunch we transfer again to Creissan Riding Stables and enjoy an afternoon riding in the opposite direction from our Tuesday ride, through the vineyards and scrublands that run along side the Canal du Midi. We return to the barge and may cruise down the length of the lake to the oyster-growing hamlet of Bouzigues. If there is time we can visit the exhibition explaining the shellfish raising culture of the lake. Dinner on board.
Friday, Horseback riding cruise - Day 6

We start early to catch the opening of the lift bridge at Frontignan and cruise the Canal du Rhone a Sete today, passing the pink flamingos and the white horses, of the Camargue National Park. We moor in the ancient walled city of Aigues Mortes, and climb the 12th century defensive Tower of Constance. Our more energetic guests may wish to walk the one mile circumference of the town on the parapet of its walls. This afternoon we transfer to Mire Peissat Riding Stables in the very heart of the vineyards. You can ride across the agricultural landscape, across vineyards along the Mediterranean Sea. Return to the barge for Captains Farewell Dinner
Saturday, Horseback riding cruise - Day 7

Depart after a last breakfast on board and transfer to either hotel, airport or train station in Montpellier, Nimes or Beziers
Itinerary is subject to change. On alternative weeks the cruise is in reverse direction
Notes: Horse Back Riding Cruises are available for charter groups of 6-8 passengers. Our prices include pre booked and prepaid horseback riding as detailed in the itineraries and transfers to and from each stables from the barge. Riding helmets are not provided by European Waterways and therefore clients are invited to bring their own helmets from home. The stables do have helmets available for riders but cannot guarantee the correct size will be available.
Different levels of ability will be catered for and you should advise us in advance of the level of each rider so arrangements can be made in advance with each stable.
